Tech-scapes patterns

New tools, both theoretical and pragmatic, are needed to analyse and understand contemporary architectural phenomena. For this to happen, the relationship between mathematical models and architecture needs to be cemented and a pattern seen as an invaluable component of architecture.  A methodology based on my belief that Complexity Theory could be the basis for interpreting architecture and pattern as structure, in order to transform the abstract into reality. Within this theoretical frame, some projects of External Reference Architects will be analysed: techno landscapes aimed to produce deep sensory experiences, through space, light, music and projections.

Design Institute Amman – Workshops

Interior Design III | Color Theory

The objective of this workshop is to provide students an introduction to the techniques of color theory used in retail design and visual merchandising. What criteria are used to define the color of a brand? How it influences the graphic image of the brand? What consequences does this have on the design of commercial space? The participants will learn how to create a mood board to clarify the first ideas of a retail interior design project and to generate a coherent concept of how to manage colours in commercial spaces projects.

Interior Design IV | Commercial Interior Design

The objective of this workshop is to provide advanced students the opportunity to explore ways to strengthen a brand through design. We will study a particular case: the airport shops. This example is a particularly interesting case because it gives us a clear idea of how the retail space is increasingly international. Moreover, shopping in an airport is a very special kind of leisure. Often, the only way users have to entertain for hours waiting. Participants will learn how to deal with a retail design project.

Italian architects abroad

An exhibition composed of journeys, experiences and returns
telling the stories of the many Italian architects to have found success abroad.
From the role of Giacomo Quarenghi in St Petersburg to the work of Lina Bo Bardi in Brazil and through to Pietro Belluschi in the United States and Romaldo Giugola - still active in Australia - or even Renzo Piano, the migratroy paths followed by some of our leading talents are well known and well established within the international historiography of architecture.
The exhibition Erasmus Effect investigates the progressive acceleration that the phenomenon of “migrant” Italian architecture has undergone in recent decades. From the work of the established international companies to the projects and built works of the young Italian studios, shedding light on both the “widespread quality” of their work and the dense network of collaborations and trans-national ateliers born in the wake of the "Erasmus generation".
And lastly, the “star” migrants, not just architects, but voices, faces and stories capable of recounting a very extensive phenomenon and to lend energy and substance to the commitment of those striving to ensure

the consistency of repetition

Accumulation is a process that allows one to find similarities and drive differences in the design discipline . From hectares to mm, redundancy is not a practice of the superfluous, instead it aims to find new consistencies and patterns. It's a way to integrate and organise interactions within different levels of the project simultaneously.

30<40

30<40 is a selection of thirty of the best Sicilian architects under 40. For the first time a generation comes to the fore that is still connected with its background while showing a cosmopolitan, multifaceted, vital approach: this is the impression one gets by looking at the work of these architects who have relocated to other regions or countries. A case apart in the Italian architectural scene and a surprise for those who think that Sicilian architecture is figuratively stereotyped and academically influenced.

external reference developed the catwalk for moda fad 2012

MODAFAD is a Barcelona based fashion association which promotes young and experimental designers from all Spain and gives them the opportunity to exhibit their work. Its mission is to organise international fashion shows.

Fashion is about the temporary, the ephemeral, the contingent. Its characters are reflected in this year's edition of MODAFAD, which features the idea of no-gravity architecture.

Our proposal is to work on a light roof-pavilion that activates new shared functions in Plaza Real, in Barcelona.

MODAFAD will be deconstructed and then reassembled as a shiny Alphabet-Soup-like pattern floating over the catwalk.

This latter consists of a pink crosswalk that runs along the plaza throughout the palms and features a 30m loop-walkway.

Urban Activator Workshop, COAC, Barcelona. urbanactivators.com

The International Architecture Festival EME3 presents the Urban Activators workshop that will be hosted at the COAC (Official College of Architects of Catalonia), as part of their eme3_on activities program. The workshop will be a professional forum, live public installation and an exhibition discussing the informal processes of activating our urban environment. Most importantly this workshop will promote and communicate the rich quantity of unsolicited urban actions, interventions and activations that recent world events have been proposing, debating and enacting.

Urban Activators calls on architects, designers, activists and the general public for new strategies of public activation. Our proposal for the Urban Activators workshop is to work on inflatable devices, light and portable pavilions which may temporarily activate public space within the city of Barcelona, Spain.

WORK IN PROCESS: GLOBAL PROBLEMS LOCAL SOLUTIONS
eme3 International Architecture Festival is back in its 6th edition. Under the topic WORK IN PROCESS: GLOBAL PROBLEMS, LOCAL SOLUTIONS, eme3_2011 will take place in Barcelona from30 of june to 3rd of July in several downtown exhibition centers: COAC (Col.legi d'Arquitectes de Catalunya) in the Cathedral’s Square, ARTS SANTA MONICA and the Design School ELISAVA on the Ramblas, and Disseny HUB in carrer Montcada (in front of Museu Picasso).

The festival’s format will continue as in previous years. Participants will present their projects in a cross way in the differents sections: market (exhibition), scale 1:1 (urban interventions and prototypes), debates and lectures, audiovisual sessions and workshops.

The eme3 guideline, characterized as a festival that questions and confronts differents points of views on architecture and its relationship to society, intends this year to provide with concrete answers to global solutions, which were presented and discussed in the last 2010 edition.

Thus, among other, questions will revolve around the contradictions between sustainable development and "greenwashing

MEDIARC - Festival Internazionale di Architettura in Video
10ª edizione

Form follows materials

The logics of reuse and refabrication with industrial waste appear as a visionary realm of architectural research, which acquire an ethical magnitude in the transformation of the built environment; the costeffectiveness of reused materials; and the incubation of new forms of space-frames applied mainly in experimental dwellings.

What game should we play instead by using low-tech and light-tech systems? A sustainable experiment towards potential housing design shows broad possibilities by using manufacturing
junk-frames.
