The piece

VAS is a pair of independent vessels by Carmelo Zappulla / External Reference. Each piece pairs a CNC-milled cork exterior, produced with Amorim Cork, with a 3D-printed ceramic interior developed with Codigo Materia, its layered structure left visible rather than smoothed away. The two pieces are shown side by side, not nested or joined: a study in contrast, porous against polished, warm against cool, exterior against interior. VAS was awarded Bronze at the Delta Awards 2026.

The exhibition

DHub, the Design Hub Barcelona, brings together design across disciplines within the city's design museum network. VAS joins this setting as an object that treats material contrast as its subject, placing craftsmanship and digital fabrication in the same frame.
